Everything begins from that one great idea. No matter how simple or complicated it may be if it is unique enough, has a market and addresses a specific need or concern; that idea has the potential to affect the lives of millions of people and in turn make you into the next wealthiest person. Ask the guy who had the great idea of putting some adhesive on the back of a paper note so it could stick on a wall or the person who thought he could let people pay him for doing their shopping, or the one who decided he could charge money for putting pop-culture sayings on an otherwise ordinary cotton t-shirt. They all saw an opportunity and decided to do take some action. But while a great idea may count for something, an idea without a purpose is the same as none. A person may have something in mind for quite sometime now, years even. But will it work in the real world where customers are picky and competition is fierce?
When thinking of your business concept, whether it's a product or a service, ask yourself the question: What worry or need am I trying to address? Every business hopes to solve a specific problem. Car washes help people who have cars but don't have the time to clean it. Filipino-Japanese resto provide people with a hankering for some sushi or ramen. Business process outsourcing companies help other companies perform their customer service, logistics, or human resource duties. If there's a problem, it requires a solution' and that solution may come from you.
Address the need
Identifying these problems will help you create that good opportunity. But of course, that is isn't the end yet. Another step for would be entrepreneurs after identifying a problem or a need is to address it. How then will you solve people's dirty cars, diner's hungry appetites and more. The answer can be in the form of a service, productor or both. This is how you will begin to earn. If the solution you propose effectively address that problem, then people will gladly pay you for it.
This is just the beginning of a long but fruitful journey into building your own business. You may find the need to revise your original business concept as you go along, identifying other needs to address or some problems you perhaps didn't foresee. Take comfort in the fact that as you continue to breakdown your business idea, you will, in the end, create a solid product or service that people will pay you good money for. Now isn't that a good idea? by: Peter Imbong
